July 15, 2016

Blurring the lines between alternative rock, jazz, funk, metal, bluegrass and other genres still, Umphrey's McGee exploded out of the contemporary Jam Scene in the early 2000's with an inimitable fusion of improvisation and progressive rock. The unorthodox innovators are headed out on a mammoth Winter tour of the US in early 2016 with jazz funk quartet Tauk as support.

The Grateful Dead have been resurrected in the form of Dark Star Orchestra. Formed in 1997, this tribute band came up with the novel idea of recreating complete sets from The Grateful Dead's gigantic list of concerts. They adapt their playing and sound depending on what era of Dead they're tackling on the night, and while they slavishly recreate the sound of the band down to the minutest detail, the band often embark on epic improvisations that would make their heroes proud.

Joe Walsh has had the type of career that would make the one-hit-wonders of today weep. The multi-talented muso has spent over 40 years wearing the hat of producer, singer, songwriter, composer and instrumentalist whilst being a member of the Eagles, the James Gang, Barnstorm, The Party Boys and Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. That burning guitar solo in Hotel California? Walsh had more than a hand in that!

The infectious pop of Justin Bieber meets the DIY style of Ed Sheeran in Canadian singer Shawn Mendes, a teen whose ambitions garnered him a huge online following after posting videos of himself performing popular covers. This self-made attitude attracted the attention of Island Records, to which he signed, and together they released the record-breaking single 'Life of the Party' in June 2014.
