Music that would change the world
The first symphonies of Mozart and Beethoven
The first symphonies of Mozart and Beethoven
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra brings to the concert hall two pieces that signaled the dawn of two careers that would change the course of music history forever. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 form a program of "Brilliant Beginnings", under the the baton of Jiannan Cheng. And that's not all - pianist Juho Pohjonen appears with the orchestra for a rendition of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12!
Written at the ripe old age of eight years old(!), Mozart's First Symphony has all the audible excitement of youth. He was already known as something of a Wunderkind for his instrumental talents, but this would mark his pivot into becoming one of the greatest composers in history. Another of those greatest composers, Ludwig Van Beethoven, was giving hints of his courageous innovativeness, famously opening with chords which appeared to be in the wrong key. Indebted to Mozart and others from whom he took inspiration, the work set the stage for a real boundary-pusher to shine.
